The Skytrax World Airport Awards were announced on the 23rd March 2010 at the first ever live ceremony in Brussels, Belgium - as part of the Passenger Terminal Expo.The top title in the Middle East Airport category went to Bahrain International Airport - which was named "Middle East Airport of the Year 2010", placing it in a competitive position on the world aviation map. Some set criteria included passenger ease, comfort, and speed of airport processes.
Attended by top management from airports around the world, this award was among 30 awards presented by Chairman of Skytrax, Mr. Edward Plaisted.
Mr. Plaisted said, "Passengers are looking for the easiest airport experience, and Bahrain International Airport's uniqueness as a compact airport, combined with premium staff efficiency and speed of processes has attributed to its win."
In the award ceremony organized by Skytrax, the judging panel cited "easiest and most efficient experience" as the key judgment criteria. Bahrain International Airport's ability to deliver on those criteria, to provide passengers a significantly different travel experience as a result, has led to its success.
"I am naturally delighted that Bahrain International Airport has won this award. It is especially significant since it highlights the combined efforts of all contributing entities within the airport, and thus to this victory," said Dr. Osama AlAli CEO of Bahrain Airport Company.

This award is proof of our commitment to excellence, and represents the first step to enhancing the status of Bahrain International Airport - allowing it to feature competitively in a global arena," he said.

The title of "Best Middle East Airport 2010", adds to Bahrain International Airport's illustrious list of awards, including Best Business Lounge Award and the Routes Award for Best Aviation Marketing, as well as numerous awards for Bahrain Duty Free.
